E Sports in Japan – new movement Tokyo, Japan December 13, 2017

  • Unification of Japan eSports organizations – 3 associations into one (Spring of 2018)

Above three groups and collaboration with Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA https://www.cesa.or.jp/profile_e/), and Japan Online Gaming Association (JOGA http://japanonlinegame.org/ ), to create a unified eSports association in Japan.

  • Promoting and healthy development of eSports,

  • Creating regulations for the issuance of professional licenses.

The newly formed organization will co-host a game event “TOKAIGI 2018” (literary translating to English as “Fight Summit 2018”), with Dwango Co. Ltd., and Gz Brain Inc., which will be held jointly with “Japan Amusement Expo (JAEPO) 2018” in February 2018. The eSports event in which professional licenses will be issued, for the very first time during the TOKAIGI 2018 event. http://tokaigi.jp/2018/en/

The issuance of pro-license - A pro license with the recommendation and approval from the publisher.

At the TOKAIGI 2018, these titles will be issued professional licenses

  1. Winning Eleven 2018 (Konami digital entertainment)

  2. Street Fighter V- arcade edition (Capcom)

  3. Fist 7 (Bandai NAMCO entertainment)

  4. Puzzle & Dragons (GungHo Online Entertainment)

  5. Monster Strike (mixi)

International organizations participating the TOKAIGI 2018 are;

leSF (Korea), eGames (the U.K.), and KeSPA (Korea)

The new movement – issuing a professional license of e-sports, was devised to clear the domestic situation in Japan that some Japanese laws and regulations such as Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Presentations prevent to organize eSports events where a large amount of prize money will be awarded.
